Re: the Gallup research about manager engagement falling in the last three years, one bright spot that's emerging with AI shifting the market: managers going back to high-impact IC work! I love the idea of people choosing to double back to doing the work again, as opposed to being forced into management positions they don't really want bc of pay/status/etc etc.

Yessss! Also the system of promoting people who are excellent IC’s into management because of their skills as an IC leads to managers without management skills - which never made sense to me
